Architect Giorcelli discusses: the transformation of a '60s apartment in Cesano Boscone

The renovation process through the choice of ceramic materials for a modern style with the Metal Design series by Cerdisa.

In the fascinating world of interior renovation, each project is unique and reflects the aspirations of the clients. This time, we delve into the exclusive interview with architect Giorcelli, the mind behind the extraordinary transformation of a flat on the fifth floor of a 1968 building. From a dated design to a modern and welcoming environment, the architect shares the challenges, the choice of materials and colours, and his creative approach.

How did the project idea evolve, starting from the initial needs of the client and your idea of setting?

They presented us with a clear vision of simple and linear spaces, dominated by tones of metallic grey, iron black and matte white. We started from the fan-shaped layout of the apartment, which inspired the creation of a large open space living, a bedroom with a study corner and a comfortable bathroom with a spacious shower. The laundry was discreetly hidden in the hallway. Respecting their ideas was my priority, as the house would be their refuge.

How did you come to the choice of using ceramic material for the surfaces?

The idea of using ceramic materials came from my son and his partner, and it was an idea that I fully embraced. We undertook extensive research and the Metal Design series by Cerdisa proved to be perfectly in line with our goal. Its original aesthetics, the innovative design, sophisticated colours and versatile formats were exactly what we were looking for.

How was the choice of colours and finishes used? In this case, the Metal Design series by Cerdisa.

The colours were a specific request from the clients, and we collaborated to ensure that their preferences were respected. The Metal Design series by Cerdisa proved perfect for realising this vision. The use of metallic grey, black iron and matte white created a sophisticated and modern balance throughout the apartment, responding exactly to the directives that were given to us.

From the client's point of view, what kind of feedback did you get at the end of the construction period?

The client was involved in every stage of the process, demonstrating a collaborative and positive attitude both during the design and execution phases. I must admit that we have a very similar idea of home, which made the journey much smoother. Although it was challenging to follow every single aspect in terms of the execution they anticipated and the search for details, the end result seems to us satisfactory and of high quality, reflecting our commitment to impeccable design.
